Quick start guide
Welcome to the Summon Quickstart Guide! We're excited to have you on board and can't wait for you to experience the seamless collaboration and organization that Summon has to offer. This guide will help you get started in no time, so let's dive right in!
Summon is a native app (because it's fast and we can keep you updated with notifications). We support MacOS, Windows and Linux. After downloading the app, open it and follow the prompts to sign up with GitHub.
After sign-up, you'll be directed to your brand-new Summon workspace. Here's where the magic happens! Customize your workspace by adding new Pages and adding Blocks to those pages. Think of Blocks as data building blocks to interact with your data. Pages could represent a project, a team or logical data groups (eg all your merge requests).
As you explore Blocks, the app will prompt you to add data integrations. For example, to see data in your Project Board block, the app will prompt you to connect to Jira (we'll add other project management integrations over time). Aside from GitHub, we currently have integrations with Jira, Google Calendar and Slack (to send MR review reminders).
❗IMPORTANT - First time you connect a new data source it may take several minutes for all your data to show up in the app.
The Summon Assistant is your personal admin assistant, designed to take care of tedious work and provide suggestions based on your needs. It's your inbox for important notifications so you don't have to sort through Slack messages and emails. Each message you get can be acted on right in Summon so you don't have to jump between Slack, your email inbox, Jira, GitHub etc.
Now that you're all set up, take some time to explore the various features of Summon:
